Surgery date, and a goal to hit

Sidhe Viewpoint, Scotland

So, I have a surgery date! Trigger fingers (both of them) will be dealt with on July 16th.

My goal is to have the first draft of ‘Shield & Scepter’ done and to my betas before then. I have anywhere from 3-4 chapters or 20k words to get where the story is done. I know what’s left to tell, and I have the time to get it out of my head and on paper.

I set a minimum of 1,000 words a day. Given I’ll have days where I can’t write due to life stuff (daughter’s college graduation, short vacation, work schedule wiping me out), I should still finish the book and get it sent off well before surgery.

I wrote some this morning, thinking I’d get 500 or so words in before I went to work. I got over 1,300 down.

My hands will be bandaged for 3 days as the incision is on the palm. After that, it’s a band aid over the stitches. No heavy lifting for 3-5 weeks, but finger mobility will be there from the start. Okay, after the numbing agent in both hands wears off. Though I’ll probably not write until the big bandages come off. I anticipate those being difficult to type around. LOL

When I get started on revisions depends on how the hands feel, and when I get notes back from my betas. I’m hoping they’ll get them back to me within a month of me sending them off. Depending on how much writing gets done, I may get notes back before I can work through them.

This is what needs to happen. I don’t want to wait until I can’t straighten the fingers to deal with it.

I have a goal. I will hit it. Revisions will happen. And then it goes to my agent.

Let’s hope a publisher likes the first one before she gets the second….

  1. I have confidence in you. Being a part of this process makes me feel useful, still have typing hands if you get to where you want to dictate.
