A new door waits

Interior door, Fa’side Castle, Scotland

I start my new job today.

I’m sure there’s going to be an hour or two of paperwork, some videos that I’m required to watch. But, eventually, I’ll get to my building (orientation is taking place at another one) and see my workspace. Get some training on what I’m to be doing.

Start on this part of my life.

I’ve packed a few small things to take with me for my desk. Nothing big, as I don’t know the space I have. An amethyst point with a worry spot perfect for my thumb. A coaster. A small (and I mean that!) painting my son did for me.

Crap. Gotta grab an extra phone charger! Okay, found it. I want that not because I plan to be on my phone all day. LOL. It’s in case I can listen to music while I work.

There’s an old saying about when one door closes, another opens. A different take on that is to just open the door that slammed in your face! I’m a child of the 70’s, raised by parents who grew up in the 40’s and 50’s. Back when sexism was accepted, when boys could do a million things and get away with it, but girls had to stay pristine.

This job is a new opening for me. I’ve unlearned a lot over the last decade or so. There’s more I have to unpack, no matter how painful, to truly realize who I am. What I am. Not just as an author, but a person. The door is before me. I’ve put my hand on the latch. Now to go through the opening and see what waits on the other side.
